Meet Vanessa of The Haute Pursuit. She started blogging when it was still a very small community. After a year she joined an agency, then started traveling the world. A year ago, she started channeling energy into building her own business and fashion line that is sold exclusively on THPSHOP.co. Alongside her role as CEO and Creative Director, she also continue to consult and work with brands on creative projects that she is passionate about.
Q1: What are you most inspired by; what keeps your energy going?
I love my work and still see it as a hobby—I wake up every day excited to lead the people on my team, learn from them and my mentors, and work with other inspiring creatives. Pouring so much of myself into my work can be very depleting spiritually and physically, so I keep my energy by meditating twice a day and 1-2 daily yoga classes.

Q2: What role does Art play in your life both professionally and personally?
Art has always been a part of my life. Whether it was art school as a child or watching my Mom sketch for fashion school, my world has always been surrounded by beauty—which has really shaped the way i see the world. I often go to museums by myself when I have a day off, which I also categorise as a sort of ‘walking’ meditation.

Q3: What is your skincare routine like? Any city-wise tips for our readers?
I have a pretty regimented skin routine. I use a wonderful line from France that is all natural and made in small batches in Paris. As for reccs: my best skin advice is to drink lots of water. People always joke that I’m like a fish because i drink at least 3-4 L of water a day. Also to limit sun exposure—I love the sun, but only in small spurts. I always protect my face because the skin is so delicate.

Q4: What is the story behind your blog & Instagram, and what keeps you interested in the digital community?
I started my blog about 6 six years ago when I was bored at work. I came from an entirely different industry—premed in Uni followed by a brief career in biotech. I was always interested in fashion and art—I was in a multidisciplinary art/dance school for a big part of my childhood—so the creative impulse was always very strong! As to how my blog took off, I entered blogging when it was still a very small community. It was great, we all knew each other—everyone was very supportive. After a year of blogging I joined an agency then started traveling the world. I think the digital community is changing all the time and so are the tastes and whimsies of those consuming it. For me, I think having tech detoxes is important to keeping the interest alive.

Q5: Could you tell us a bit about your most favorite city and why you’re fond of it in particular?
I was just in Rome for a week and absolutely loved it. The city is beautiful, the days are slower, and the food is fresh and unpretentious. There is also a sense of community and neighbourhood there that you don’t get in say, New York.

Q6: What are your favorite Dr.Jart products?
I love the paper masks—they are great for travel.
